My SKI Equipment
This is my absolute best ski year yet. I'm skiing
IN a Revolution ProComp ($3,025.00 USD) from
Freedom Factory with modified SuperLite Outriggers (included with my ProComp). I turned the tips out 45 degrees to have better control.
I'm skiing
ON an
Elan MAGFIRE with integrated binding.
This setup is SO MUCH FUN. Check it out. I switched from a Head ski on a Shadow - but it always felt like the main part of my focus was trying to control the ski, instead of just skiing. Also, the heavy weight of the Shadow made it really difficult to ski the powder.
Then I was on the Elan 662, which I destroyed when I crashed in the Fishbowl. So the nice folks at Elan sent me the Magfire.
The MAGFIRE is a much fatter ski than the 662 with SPECTACULAR flotation in the powder. It's ROCK SOLID under my monoski, there's no chatter at ALL and it is FAST. The integrated binding adds to the overall stability of the ski, and the minimal flex and shape of the ski makes it exceptionally responsive.
If you have balance, you can ride this ski simply by shifting your weight. I rode it in spring conditions here in Whitefish and it took everything we threw at it.. oh, and it stops ON A DIME.
This ski is so awesome that it is featured in my Editors Choice section in the May 2006 issue of Active Living magazine. Check out the publication for the full review.
My KAYAKING Equipment
It's HERE. The great new setup from
THULE - the Hullavator rack system with gas assist - it's one of those happy accidents where things just happen to be really useful to us, and without the DME pricing.
As you can see, I've got TWO of these, one for each boat, and they also sent me a snowboard and ski rack so I can give all my buddies a lift up the hill - since I'm so popular - or maybe it's just that I have a car.. ;)
No matter, these THULE racks are FABULOUS. My friends like them as well, since they can now sit in campchairs and be their eversohelpful selves and manage the unloading of my boats from a distance.. "pull straight back, put some MUSCLE into it.." ;)
There's also the cool factor. I drive around with them on (empty) just to impress all the tourists. ;)
Obviously, paddling requires BOATS and I have two. I'll be paddling my Perception 9.5 Swifty in the lakes this season with my Harmony paddles.
The Swifty is a nice stable boat that has loads of extra room for a bit of gear. I got some boat foam and made side pads and a resting pad for my legs so I can wedge in nice and tight. Now, with the pads, I can control the boat quite easily, and in fact, I've towed some of my lesser abled (even though they're AB) friends boats along as well as float tubes. It's light enough to load myself, and strong enough to float the Stillwater and Flathead rivers.
This boat is NOT good for rapids though, since it is fairly long and wide - which makes it sort of like a tank in fast moving water - but they don't claim it is for fast moving water so that's ok with me.
My PFD of choice is the
Lotus Lola which is specifically cut for ladies - which is why I like it since I HATE being all bulked up - and it's dumb not to wear safety gear so you may as well be as comfy as you can.
Here's a pic of my Mainstream kayak with my Lola PFD - and here's a pic of my boats outside my house..
I'm looking for a digital video camera, wakeboard setup and a new BEEFY wheelchair. If you're in the business and want to be featured here and in Active Living magazine, let me know.
